Nicholas Wittner | Of Counsel

Nicholas Wittner’s practice is focused on product liability litigation, class action litigation, product regulation and compliance, and product safety and liability prevention.

Nick served as Assistant General Counsel at Nissan North America, Inc. for nearly 20 years where he managed Nissan’s Product Litigation Group.  His responsibilities included the defense of class actions and product liability litigation, as well as serving as a global legal adviser on product regulation and liability prevention. Prior to this, Nick was an attorney with the General Motors Legal Department for 11 years, where he managed complex multi-district product liability litigation and national and regional counsel programs.

Nick is a member of the American Law Institute and was deeply involved in the Restatement (Third) of Products Liability. He is past Chair of the Product Liability Advisory Council, past Co-Chair of the American Bar Association’s Product Liability Committee, and has chaired numerous professional conferences on product liability and class actions.

Nick is also a nationally recognized scholar on both federal preemption and international civil litigation, publishing articles and textbooks and frequently speaking on these subjects.  Nick has been teaching as a visiting law professor at the Michigan State University College of Law, where his classes include product liability law and practice in the J.D. program, and international civil litigation in the Law College’s LL.M program for international lawyers.
